Managing privacy and sharing

RideCache offers very powerful and flexible privacy settings that allow you to build your own RideCache and determine what you share and who you share with at a very fine grain level. You can set three levels of privacy starting at the vehicle itself and then for every individual element associated with that vehicle. You can find detailed instructions for privacy here, but here are a few important things to know:

  • Privacy in RideCache works in a parent child relationship, with the privacy of the parent (usually a vehicle), taking precedence over the children – but only in the cases where the parent is set to a more restrictive privacy level. For example, if you set your vehicle privacy to “Private”, no one but you will be able to see anything associated with that vehicle regardless of the individual privacy settings of those elements.
  • Here is a simple guideline to the 3 privacy levels and how they behave:
    • Private – no one but you as the owner, and trusted individuals you approve as “Managers” (if any) will see this vehicle or object. If applied to a vehicle, then all items associated with this vehicle will also be treated as “Private” regardless of their individual privacy settings.
    • Riders – only you as the owner, your approved “drivers” and those you approve as “Riders” will see this vehicle or object. If applied to a vehicle, then all items associated with this vehicle will also be treated as “Riders Only” regardless of their individual privacy settings.
    • Public – everyone who accesses RideCache will be able to see this vehicle or object. For vehicles that are set to Public, the visibility of items associated with the vehicle will be determined by that items privacy setting. This means that even with a “Public” vehicle, many items may only be visible to the owner/drivers (Private) or to approved riders (Riders).
