Managing your privacy settings

There are 3 privacy roles that are available in RideCache. You will see these roles represented with their associated privacy icons on the list and view pages for each item. You will be able to set these privacy roles at the bottom of each items “edit” page. Here are the descriptions of the 3 privacy roles in RideCache along with their associated privacy icons.
  • Private  – only you as the Owner and your designated Managers can view items with this privacy setting. As a reminder, here is the description of the Manager role.
  • Rider – this is somewhat analogous to a “Friend” in more traditional social media sites (like Facebook). But unlike a Facebook friend, a RideCache Rider is a one-way relationship. Allowing someone to be a Rider in one of your vehicles allows them to see some content (that you designate) that is not visible to the general public, but does not give you any reciprocal privileges to any of the Rider’s vehicles. Similar to Facebook Friends, users who want to be a Rider in one of your RideCache vehicles will submit a Rider request that you will have the opportunity to approve or deny. Then you will also have the ability to designate specific content that can be visible to Riders in your vehicle (tasks, events, resources, papers, etc).
  • Public – this is what you would expect public to be, anyone that logs in can see information that is designated as public. This includes the general browsing public, but also RideCache users who choose to Tailgate your vehicle. As a reminder, here is a description of the Tailgate functionality.

Tailgater – Tailgater is not really a privacy level but is worth mentioning here. A Tailgater in RideCache is analogous to a “Follower” in most social media applications (like Twitter). Any RideCache user can choose to follow or “Tailgate” any publicly visible vehicle (the vehicle owner does not need to “approve” a Tailgater). This does not give them any special privileges relative to that vehicle – they are only able to view publicly available information – but it allows them to easily track vehicles they are interested in – because they will have a collection of “Vehicles I Follow". If they are interested in more detailed access and visibility to a vehicle they will request to become a Rider in that vehicle.

  • As the vehicle owner, only you and your approved Managers or Service Providers will be able to create, edit or delete content. Riders, Tailgaters and the general public can only view your content. You will always have full control over what level of visibility is available for any given RideCache element.
    • Sales brochure, press clippings, etc – PUBLIC
    • Window sticker, some receipts – RIDERS
    • Title, loan documents, appraisals, sensitive receipts, etc – PRIVATE
  • Privacy Defaults - You can individually set the privacy level for any item. But to make it easy for you to manage your content we have provided a way for you to designate default privacy setting for any content you create. This can be found in the “Privacy” menu selection under the Settings menu. We have initiated these privacy defaults such that all items are “public” with the exception of papers, which default initially to “private”. Designating most content as Public is the friendliest approach for your fellow RideCache users and allows them to have visibility into the tasks and activities for your vehicle, but not necessarily see sensitive documents like titles, receipts, etc unless you specifically make them visible. For example, here is how you might choose to set up visibility for your papers for a specific vehicle:
