Managing Tailgaters and Riders in your vehicles

Other RideCache users can engage with your vehicles based on your privacy settings and approvals. RideCache defines two specific user designations to enable sharing of your vehicles. One is based on your approval, the other is based on the other user’s choice.
  • Rider - A Rider is somewhat analogous to a “Friend” in more traditional social media sites (like Facebook). But unlike a Facebook friend, a RideCache Rider is a one-way relationship. Allowing someone to be a Rider in one of your vehicles allows them to see some content that is not visible to the general public (content you designate to have “Rider” visibility through the item privacy settings), but does not give you any reciprocal privileges to any of the Rider’s vehicles. But similar to the Facebook Friends functionality, users who want to be a Rider in one of your vehicles will submit a Ride Request that you will have the opportunity to approve or deny. You have the ability to designate specific content that can be visible to the Riders in your vehicle (tasks, events, resources, papers, etc). This is a great way to share some content with users that you know, without making that content available to the general public.

When a user submits a “Request Ride” request, you will be notified in the notifications section of RideCache with a “bell” icon next to your login userid at the top right of the screen (on smaller, mobile device screens, you may need to open the small menu to see this icon). You can then choose to “Accept” or “Ignore” this request.

  • Tailgater - A Tailgater is analogous to a “Follower” in most social media sites (like Twitter). Any RideCache user can choose to follow or “Tailgate” any publicly visible vehicle and the vehicle owner does not need to “approve” a Tailgater. This does not give the Tailgater any special privileges relative to that vehicle – they are only able to view publicly available information – it simply allows them to easily track vehicles they are interested in because they will have a collection of “Vehicles I Follow". If they are interested in more detailed access and visibility to a vehicle they will submit a Ride Request to the owner of that vehicle.
