Managing your privacy settings
- Private – only you as the Owner and your designated Managers can view items with this privacy setting. As a reminder, here is the description of the Manager role.
- Rider – this is somewhat analogous to a “Friend” in more traditional social media sites (like Facebook). But unlike a Facebook friend, a RideCache Rider is a one-way relationship. Allowing someone to be a Rider in one of your vehicles allows them to see some content (that you designate) that is not visible to the general public, but does not give you any reciprocal privileges to any of the Rider’s vehicles. Similar to Facebook Friends, users who want to be a Rider in one of your RideCache vehicles will submit a Rider request that you will have the opportunity to approve or deny. Then you will also have the ability to designate specific content that can be visible to Riders in your vehicle (tasks, events, resources, papers, etc).
- Public – this is what you would expect public to be, anyone that logs in can see information that is designated as public. This includes the general browsing public, but also RideCache users who choose to Tailgate your vehicle. As a reminder, here is a description of the Tailgate functionality.
Tailgater – Tailgater is not really a privacy level but is worth mentioning here. A Tailgater in RideCache is analogous to a “Follower” in most social media applications (like Twitter). Any RideCache user can choose to follow or “Tailgate” any publicly visible vehicle (the vehicle owner does not need to “approve” a Tailgater). This does not give them any special privileges relative to that vehicle – they are only able to view publicly available information – but it allows them to easily track vehicles they are interested in – because they will have a collection of “Vehicles I Follow". If they are interested in more detailed access and visibility to a vehicle they will request to become a Rider in that vehicle.
